It is the acts of violence & racism of this week that brings me to this topic. It is heart breaking to know we are living in a world filled with so much hate, but just as important as it is to recognize & condemn those who’s hearts are filled with hate. We must be able to recognize & appreciate those who are hearts are filled with love. We must not only appreciate it but UNITE with those who love freely regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or background. It is moments like this when you have to stop and realize that it is the year 2017 & we are living in a world where hate and ignorance is closer than you imagine. They say history repeats itself & here we are. But we are so lucky to have had many great leaders & activists before us pave the way. We owe it to them, we owe it to ourselves & to our future children & their children, to stand up for what’s right, to stand up for our civil rights. We must unite & stand strong against hate. What that means is, if you see someone being discriminated, treated unfairly solely based on the color of their skin, disability, gender or sexual orientation it is important that you stand up to the person of hate look them in the eye and tell them they are WRONG! CONDEMN THE WRONG for treating another human being as if they are less than because of their race, sexual orientation, gender, disability or what ever it may be that sprouted the hate. It is just as important to shut down hate when you witness it being directed to a stranger, as if it were being directed towards a loved one of yours. Because discrimination, racism, hate crimes don’t just happen to people of color. It can happen to any of us and it can happen at any time. We must UNITE & call out those who have hate in their hearts, we must make it clear that WE WILL NOT TOLERATE RACISM or discrimination by any means. We must condemn those who believe in such a way. We have to remind these people that it is NOT OK to be racist, that their is no room for hate in our communities, our cities, our states, our country. Lets remind those who discriminate that AMERICA IS THE LAND OF THE FREE. Because what made America great was it’s versatility in cultures, in race, it’s open-ness to diversity. The unity of many cultures blending to make one great country.
Im not sure how many of you will agree, But I do know one thing, when my time is done here on earth, I want to be remembered as someone who stood up for what he believed in, for what is right. Remembered for being free enough to want to help free others. I want to be remembered for saying fuck you in the face of hate. Together we can stop history from repeating itself, lets unite, spread love & trump hate.
